Food & Garden Organics (FOGO) Composting
Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority’s (NAWMA) last kerbside bin audit showed that on average 48% of the contents of the RED lid general waste bins is food scraps and garden clippings. This matter should be going into the GREEN lid Bin. The contents of RED lid Bins are sent straight to landfill instead of being recycled into compost.
HOW TO USE GREEN BINS PROPERLY
Green-lid Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) bins are now free for all residents in City of Salisbury, City of Playford and Town of Gawler if you don’t already have one.
When you order a new FOGO bin from NAWMA, you can choose between a small (140L) or large (240L) size.
The green-lid FOGO bin is collected every fortnight on the alternate week to the yellow-lid recycling bin.
If you order a FOGO bin from NAWMA, you will receive a free ventilated kitchen caddy to collect your food scraps.
Many types of food scraps (including pizza and the boxes!) can go in the green bin.
