Sweet Success: Adelaide’s largest lolly shop set to double in size
In the heart of Salisbury lies a confectionery wonderland unlike any other. Kandy House is nestled within Parabanks Shopping Centre. It is Adelaide’s largest lolly shop—a testament to the sweet dreams and entrepreneurial spirit of its owner, Markus.
A chef by trade, local guy Markus honed his culinary skills abroad and interstate before returning to his roots. Back home, he set out to satisfy the local sweet tooth with a unique twist. It all began with a passion for hard-to-find imported candies. Armed with an eye for the exceptional and a taste for the exotic, Markus started small, selling his curated collection at local market stalls. As demand grew, he transitioned to pop-up shops and last year he realised his dream of establishing a permanent retail space.
“I chose lollies because it’s fun,” Markus explains with a smile. “I wanted to bring joy to people’s lives, to offer them something exciting and different.”
And different it is. Kandy House boasts an extensive selection of candies from around the globe, including the bestselling Takis, a popular Mexican snack that has become a local sensation. From nostalgic childhood favourites to exotic delicacies, there’s something to delight every palate at Kandy House.
Markus is deeply ingrained in his community, championing local causes and supporting
grassroots initiatives.
His dedication to giving back is evident in his sponsorship of local sporting clubs, including providing support for indigenous players.
And his commitment to community doesn’t end there. In collaboration with the Salisbury Business Association and Centre management, he’s spearheading efforts to breathe new life into Parabanks Shopping Centre. Their upcoming Autumn market promises to invigorate the centre and provide a platform for aspiring market stallholders, echoing Markus’s own humble beginnings. See ad on back cover.
Later this month, the lolly shop will undergo a transformation, doubling in size to include an American-style diner café. Patrons can look forward to indulging in hearty burgers, loaded fries, succulent ribs and decadent desserts.
One thing is clear – Markus’s sweet success is not just measured by the candies he sells but by the joy, passion, and sense of community he brings to every customer who walks through the doors of Kandy House, Parabanks.
